In this “Five Minute Friday” episode, Dad Bod to Athletic: 3 Strength Standards for Men 40-50, I’m breaking down the objective strength and agility standards every man in his 40s and 50s needs to meet to stay capable and dangerous. We’re moving beyond vanity and focusing on functional fitness, longevity, and the discipline required to lead your home with composure.

The “Prescribed Burn”

I started my fitness reboot at 40 and stepped onto the BJJ mats at 44. Now, at 52, I’ve realized that the “burn” of a heavy deadlift or a tough round of rolling does more than just build muscle. It’s a Prescribed Burn—a controlled way to incinerate the mental “dead brush” like anxiety and decision fatigue before they turn into a wildfire at home or in the office.
